Values and Virtues for
Preschool Children
The Georgia Preschool Association has created Faithful Beginnings to help you lay the foundation for children to adopt specific values that will impact their character development. The collection furthers the Georgia Preschool Association’s mission of serving young children, teachers, and parents.
WHAT IS THE FAITHFUL BEGINNINGS COLLECTION?
Faithful Beginnings is a free collection of short, theme-based digital lessons that focus on moral principles that most of the world’s major religions embrace. The lessons are appropriate for use in a variety of settings. They can be taught in public, private or parochial preschool classrooms, daycare settings, church environments, homes, after-school programs, summer camps, Scout groups, or sports team meetings. The lessons vary in length, style, format, age level appropriateness, and materials needed to implement them. However, all are designed to be engaging and meaningful to young children. They use inexpensive, readily available supplies and are easy for an adult to implement.
WHO HAS MADE THIS FREE COLLECTION POSSIBLE?
Mr. John F. Wieland has provided the funds to enable the Georgia Preschool Association to create, design, update, enhance, and sustain the collection. He has done so to honor the life of his late wife, Susan W. Wieland.
Sue Wieland championed children. She was a founding member and benefactor of the Atlanta Children’s Day Shelter, which serves homeless children between six weeks and five years old. As a deeply committed Christian, Sue’s trademarks were love and kindness. She also exhibited many other character traits that we want to help young children acquire such as generosity, caring, gratitude, and optimism.
As the granddaughter of Arnold Gesell, M.D., one of the pioneering giants in the field of early childhood, an active interest in fostering the welfare of young children was a part of Sue’s heritage. It was also a part of her legacy.
HOW CAN THE COLLECTION BE IMPROVED?
You can help it grow! Faithful Beginnings is intended to be a living collection—one that expands and strengthens through contributions from early childhood educators. We invite you to submit lessons you have created or successfully used in your own classroom so others may benefit from your experience. All lessons included in the Faithful Beginnings collection will be made available free of charge to all users.
We at the Georgia Preschool Association hope you enjoy using this collection and will join us in helping it grow and flourish.
Disclaimer: By submitting a lesson, you acknowledge that you have credited any source of material that used in the development of the lesson and understand that if the lesson is included in Georgia Preschool Association's Faithful Beginnings collection, it will be made available free to any online user.
